Life Hacks for when Life gets Hard

Trust me. I get it. It's hard always to be positive and happy, especially if you're someone like me who struggles with anxiety and depression. It’s easier to be busy and constantly on the go than it is to sit down and take the time to care for yourself. Thankfully, I have a couple of tricks for when you’re having a particularly rough time!

Take a shower

I'm not calling you stinky! Taking a nice hot (or cool if that's what you prefer) shower and using all the smelly products truly resets the brain. I like to think I'm washing all the negative energy and bad juju off for a new refreshing day. A nice bath with some candles and a good book would also be more than acceptable.

Go get a special beverage

This one is sure to get anyone out of a bad mood. Take a special trip to pick up your favorite drink to sip on! Maybe try something new? An iced coffee, a Diet Coke, a smoothie, or even something fun like boba. Sometimes if I’m feeling extra adventurous, I’ll go inside, sit with the special beverage, and maybe read a book or study.

A scenic drive

Living in such a gorgeous place like Florida allows for tons of beautiful bridges with excellent ocean views. I love to put on some nice relaxing tunes and roll my windows down for a nice sunset drive. You could even play a motivational podcast or something of the sort. This is also an excellent opportunity to get a special beverage or maybe a special treat ;)

Get creative

Getting creative isn't as intimidating or complicated as it may seem! There are many ways to create different visuals, arts, and crafts these days. Try to make this fit your likes and what makes you feel happy. Some great examples are making a fun video, knitting, baking or cooking, painting, writing a poem, or even designing your dream home. It always makes me feel better to create something fun.

seek joy

Each day, you choose to do as you please. So, you must choose to seek joy, and in that choice, you must figure out daily what you could do to bring yourself joy—planning something in the morning for me to look forward to significantly helps my mood and motivation. Planning fulfilling activities like going for a bike ride, taking a trip to the beach, or even renting a new movie with your favorite snacks are essential.

Everyone decompresses and processes life differently! Take the time to acknowledge what works best for you when you don't feel like yourself. These are some great ways to make your day a little brighter. Remember, all you can do is your best.
